Let’s Play Alien Legacy – Entry 1 – A New Home (1/5)

Welcome to 1994’s Alien Legacy my friends! This is a game of exploration and colony management, two things I REALLY enjoy. You not only manage colonies planetside, but also on your massive ark ship, the Calypso. You can also scour the surface of planets in order to gather resources, explore for new colonies, and find clues as to the whereabouts of the colony that was sent here twenty-one years before you. In this first entry, once our colonists begin waking up, I work to make our new colony on Gaea self-sufficient with a factory and a power plant, as well as manufacturing new robots on the Calypso for more production and flight possibilities. I also research new technologies and explore some new places. There’s a TON to do here, so much so I had to slow the game town a tad for fear of it running away from me. It’s a crime this game isn’t available digitally y’all, because it’s great.

  • Ooooh, the music in this game was so good, why would you turn it off?

  • how do you have a copy with voices(as they say the dialog)? my dos box version doesn't have voice, but the rest of the sounds. I use to have the CD like 15 years ago and it did have the voices, but I cant find a version with the voices.

  • This game is what got me interested in understanding hexidecimal. After i played it for a while, i edited the game files and gave myself infinite resources. Since then, ive become familiar with a few computer languages, work on a unix system for a living, and can troubleshoot most computer problems in a short amount of time.

Its funny what a simple computer game did to shape my entire life.

  • This was the game that launched my fascination with subluminal interstellar games. I always wished for a sequel, but now I'd be content with a remake.

  • no nono no

This is going to make me fire up another round of Alien Legacy. If only there was a way to automate ships to go after the green blobs and pick up items.

  • Great game.

  • one of my most favorite space game that doesn't always involve combat in solving a crisis. science discovery ftw!

  • God i fucking miss games like that ….

  • This was a really cool game and really filled that space colony building niche for me. Unfortunately the game gets extremely bogged down in the midgame because colony management gets repetitive and there are no automated controls. For instance if Colony A needs minerals and Colony B has them in abundance you can set up an automated shuttle route to ship minerals from B to A. But the flight time of the shuttle varies due to the planetary orbits! And even besides that there is no breakdown of how many minerals B consumes in a day. Since there is no option to ship B only as many minerals as it needs you can only balance colony production with some serious math and orbital calculations.

As a result of this the only real way to make colonies is self sufficient enclaves, but this tends to make them very cookie cutter and repetitive. An HD remake of the game with better controls would be amazing.
